Happy Independence Day!

Throughout July, Americans across the country will celebrate the 4th of July and Independence Day with barbeques and fireworks. While these traditions have gone on for years, many people are unaware of the history behind the celebrations. Independence Day is recognized as a holiday that commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 by the thirteen American colonies, which wanted to declare independence from Great Britain and become independent states.

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, take some time to learn the history behind this great holiday.

The History of Independence Day in America

For Americans, Independence Day is a celebration of freedom and its origins. The United States celebrates Independence Day to commemorate their independence from Britain. It was in 1776 that the Continental Congress officially declared the 13 American colonies independent from Great Britain. In an act of defiance against the British monarchy, which by then had been ruling for more than 250 years, thirteen colonies in North America defected from their home country. They were inspired by American people like George Washington and Patrick Henry, who led the fight for the freedom and independence.

The Declaration of Independence is the document by which the United States declared itself independent. Dated July 4, 1776, it was adopted by the Continental Congress and signed by 56 men who were elected to represent their original 13 colonies. The colonies had been fighting off British rule since 1775 and so this was a very important step. It was written in response to what were termed ‘The Intolerable Acts’ passed by Parliament in an effort to punish Massachusetts for an event known as King George’s War. This event left colonists with no rights whatsoever, having lost all previously held property rights, trial by jury, trade rights and political representation in Parliament.

The US Independence Day is a big occasion for the whole of America. The word ‘Independence’ has not only become a way of life in the US, but also it is an identity for its people. Everyone has his/her own reason to celebrate Independence on 4th July as it denotes American pride and glory. The celebrations are planned taking into account various aspects of the occasion including aesthetics and taste. There will be fireworks, food trucks in some cities, parades or concerts by popular artists.

There are lots of ways to celebrate this holiday, and we’ve got some suggestions for how you can get in on the fun.
Make sure you have a red, white, and blue outfit ready to go! Whether you’re going to be at a family barbecue or going out with friends, it’s important to represent the country while you’re celebrating its freedom. You can find all kinds of clothes in these colors at any store, so no excuses!

If you’re going to be cooking out at home with your family, make sure you have plenty of food on hand! No one wants to be hungry when they’re trying to show their patriotism. Some good choices include hot dogs (be careful with those!), hamburgers, corn on the cob (freshly grilled), potato salad (homemade is best), watermelon slices (so refreshing), cake pops (just because), and even fireworks!

There are tons of ways to enjoy yourself on the Fourth of July without spending too much money or getting into trouble.
